Annual Meeting Recap

It was another successful year at the American Public Health Association’s (APHA) Annual Meeting and Expo! This year’s theme, “Creating the Healthiest Nation: Climate Changes Health,” was well presented throughout the 4-day event. Climate-related risks impact our communities every day, and it is our duty as public health advocates to ensure our communities are protected from these risks. The opening plenary established the foundation for the conference theme with a video appearance from climate and civil rights advocate and Georgia Representative, John Lewis, as well as a presentation by indigenous activist Eriel Deranger, a communications manager of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation in Alberta, Canada, who described the painful effects of industrialization on her ancestral land of Fort Chipewyan and its impact on the subsistence-based agriculture of her people.

This was IQ Solutions’ 4th year sponsoring what is the largest gathering of public health officials in the nation annually, 13,000 attendees, from all walks of public health life including our current and potential clients and many international visitors. For those of you who attended, you might have noticed our IQ Solutions logo on the back of every badge. We were elated to have so many attendees stop by our exhibit booth to say hello, as well as to learn about the role smart-home technology can play in communicating reliable health information.

IQ Solutions’ employee Junaed Siddiqui, M.S., CPH, senior digital public health research associate, also presented on how a gamified, physical activity mobile app can control prediabetes in adolescents. Other IQ Solutions staff at this event were Molly Alawode, Ali Brackett, Rob Carroll, and Julie Hentz.

Through receptions, sessions, and meetings, our team reinforced many current client bonds and made valuable connections to encourage new contracts.

Overall, it was another fantastic conference, and we look forward to APHA’s event next year in San Diego, California!
