MD-For the 10th straight year, iQ Solutions supported the National Institute on
Drug Abuse (NIDA) International Forum on behalf of the NIDA International
Program.
From June 19-23,
2009, 251 scientists from 47 countries gathered in Reno, Nevada, to explore
this year's topic, "Commonalities Among the Diseases of Addiction: Implications for Treatment and
Prevention." Presenters explored
the topic by discussing the similarities among addictions to drugs of abuse,
food, gambling, and sexual behaviors.
Although the sessions were research based, attendees could apply what
they learned to everyday professional situations.
As in previous years, iQ Solutions took the Forum from
concept through execution, providing planning, promotion, implementation, and
evaluation support. With guidance
from NIDA International staff, iQ Solutions assisted in defining the topic and
developing the agenda. iQ
Solutions also developed and designed many materials and tools
for the gathering, including a magazine-quality program book, a CD-ROM toolkit,
a video presentation, wall-sized posters, and more.
"Out of all the annual Forums we've sponsored, this year's
was the best," said Steven W. Gust, Ph.D., Director of the NIDA International
Program. "The program was
tremendous, and the materials were top-notch. Plus, this year's Forum attracted a lot of first-time
attendees from around the world, which speaks volumes about our reputation for
facilitating international collaboration."
Over the years, the Forum has become the NIDA International
Program's primary research exchange activity because of the numerous
opportunities it offers to both the Institute and the international drug abuse
research community to promote and sustain scientific partnerships across
geographic borders and scientific disciplines.
The partnership between iQ Solutions and the NIDA
International Program has resulted in notable successes. Over the past 10 years, the
participation and interest in the Forum has expanded significantly-in fact, the
number of abstracts included on the agenda has tripled.
