With this year’s event open to local companies and neighbors as well as corporate clients, the IQ Solutions Annual Health Fair drew more participants than ever before. For the first time, the event spanned 2 days, May 17 and 18. A variety of health-focused vendors and resources added to each day’s offerings.

“For the past 4 years, we planned the health fair almost exclusively for our employees and families,” said IQ Solutions chief executive officer and founder, Ileana Quintas. “This year’s attendance and levels of participation showed us that the local community and our clients are also keenly interested.”

In addition to highlighting physical fitness, the health fair included samples of local organic foods from Whole Foods and Grosvenor Market, a raffle, tension-releasing chair massages, demonstrations of mobile apps for health and wellness, and seminars on diabetes prevention, healthy eating, work-life balance, and Social Security.

Health care professionals, including an internist, a dentist, a cardiologist, a pediatrician, a therapist, and an audiologist, were on hand for free sessions for participants, and a financial planner offered financial health “checkups.”

“A lot of effort has gone into making this health fair truly valuable for every person who attended,” said the fair’s coordinator, Judith B. Braslow. “We even worked with Suburban Hospital to have a team available for screenings for cholesterol, blood sugar levels, and more. These tests required preregistration and fasting. So you know people who took the time to sign up in advance were serious about this.”

To address child safety, afterschool programs, and summer camps, many Montgomery County community organizations set up information tables, including the police department, fire and rescue, Safe Kids, and the Bethesda YMCA. The Mental Health Association of Montgomery County attended to address any questions related to mental health or substance abuse.

“The week of our health fair coincides with National Women’s Health Week sponsored by the Office on Women’s Health at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services,” said Tom Brackett, chief operating officer and chief financial officer at IQ Solutions. “And President Obama has proclaimed this National Fitness Month, so we’re right on track with health and wellness as a company priority.”
