Rockville, MD—IQ Solutions, an information, communications, and education firm that uses leading technologies to improve quality of life for all Americans, has been awarded a new contract to support the Office of Special Health Issues (OSHI) of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The Office of Special Health Issues ensures that health care professionals, patient advocates, and patients themselves can fully participate in the development of FDA regulatory policy. It also disseminates safety and regulatory information to a broad community of stakeholders and responds to questions and concerns about life-threatening diseases, including cancer and HIV/AIDS.

The new contract calls on IQ Solutions to support OSHI's high-priority stakeholders: health professionals and patients. The Health Professionals Program establishes relationships with organizations that can serve as intermediaries between their members and the FDA. The Patient Representative Program makes sure that patients have input into FDA advisory committees, drug development meetings, and medical product reviews.

"These OSHI initiatives guarantee that the voices of patients and health professionals are heard at the highest levels of the FDA," said IQ Solutions founder and CEO Ileana Quintas. "It is vital to have broad community participation in such important discussions. I am pleased that IQ Solutions has been selected to support these efforts."

The contract consists of four tasks: administrative support to monthly webinars for patient representatives or health professionals; writing and editing for the Health Professionals Program, development of meeting materials, and support to continuing education programs; logistical support, coordination, and some facilitation of stakeholder listening sessions; and support for the OSHI annual workshop meeting of patient representatives.

"It's an exciting assignment that draws on our technical and functional expertise to get health information into the hands of those who need it most," said IQ Solutions' Deepa Chhatwal, project manager on the FDA/OSHI contract. "We understand program development, health consumerism, and patient issues. We are already providing OSHA support with similar tasks."
