HealthyPeople.gov: Raising the Bar for 2020

Improving Health in Communities Across the Nation
Client: The Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion
The Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) asked IQ Solutions to enhance the new version of the Web site, healthypeople.gov, to coincide with the kickoff of Healthy People 2020, the decade-long initiative to improve our Nation’s health. The goal? To present the objectives and associated data in an easy-to-use online format.
In response, IQ Solutions designed a Web interface that allows users to browse and locate Healthy People 2020 objectives. Users can also explore interventions and resources relevant to their interests. To make this possible, IQ Solutions imported data on the objectives, organized into 41 topics. IQ Solutions content experts then mapped external sources, such as clinical recommendations and community interventions, to the topic areas and objectives. Integrating data from various sources, the site dynamically displays helpful information to users as they navigate the site.
IQ Solutions also created and managed the @GoHealthyPeople Twitter account and the Healthy People 2020 LinkedIn account, and built an interactive feature to compare the top 10 causes of death across population groups. When the new Web site went live in December 2010, IQ Solutions received high praise from those involved, including the head of the Federal Advisory Committee and the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Health. Site traffic in December 2010 increased 35 percent over the same period the previous year, and the site won a Web Health Award in 2011.
