Developing a free mobile app with added value for consumers

Client: Office of Dietary Supplements

The Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS) requested that IQ Solutions develop an app for mobile devices that would offer consumers an easy way to keep track of the dietary supplements they take each day. The goal was to develop a solution that allowed users to have a list of dietary supplements and medications they and their family members take, and have access to reliable science-based information wherever they are. The solution, developed by the IQ Solutions Mobile Web Team, was the creation of the dietary supplements’ tracker branded “My Dietary Supplements” or MyDS for short.

The app allows users to create multiple profiles to track dietary supplement intake, email the list(s) to health care providers or family members, and learn about the dietary supplements they take. Personal information is stored on the mobile device. The information is accessible at home, at the grocery store, at a doctor’s office, or at other locations. Users also can access the content offline without an Internet connection. MyDS also provides access to reliable, science-based information on a variety of different dietary supplements.

With these easy-to-use features, many users report great satisfaction using the app—especially with the level of security on MyDS. MyDS version 1 was designed for the iPhone and iPad. MyDS version 2 was released in March 2012 as a device-agnostic solution that works on Apple iPhone, iPad, and iTouch devices, Android phones and devices, Kindle Fire, and BlackBerry Touch devices running OS6 and above.
