Making a Health Research Web Site Mobile-Friendly

m.drugabuse.gov

Developing the First Mobile Web Site at the National Institutes of Health

Client: National Institute on Drug Abuse

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) wanted to expand its reach and influence by giving its agency Web site a modern update—by making it mobile-friendly—to increase the digital distribution of its content.

Meeting this challenge, IQ Solutions crafted a “one Web vision,” in which content, whether English or Spanish-based, could be entered one time and still be distributed and accessible in desktop, mobile, and e-book formats. This approach provided a scalable solution that is flexible to emerging content and technology needs. Today, NIDA’s information can be accessed at m.drugabuse.gov—meeting people wherever, whenever, and however they prefer to consume digital content.  Not only was this the first fully mobile Web site launched at the National Institutes of Health, but since its launch, mobile traffic to NIDA’s Web site has doubled from 10 percent to 21 percent.
